MOVIE POSTERS - in progress

The Movie Poster Project explores gendered roles in films and its impact on femininity, sexual dominance, violence, and more. I am remaking seven movie posters across a variety of genres. Each film is selected based on the narrative roles given to the female characters of each film. By recreating the male characters into dominant, masked femmes, these posters and their narrative messaging become subversive.

I am imaging a universe run by women, where they are free to evolve from objects into horrifying creatures, where movie goers fantasize about becoming monsters themselves instead of primped and pampered perfection. Could this be a way to uncover a female gaze that is not tampered with by the existing male gaze? What does it mean in terms of gender performance?

This project also pulls from a set of preliminary collages titled FLASHING LIGHTS, ripping images from google search under “Ski Mask Baddie” and placing them as antagonists within ultra-edited urban landscapes and internet icons.
